Invideo Editor and ChatCut both pair AI editing agents with manual timelines. This comparison examines how much editing control you get for free, how each connects to ChatGPT and Claude, and which AI features and delivery options require credits or a paid plan.

A free AI video editor is useful only if you can take the edit far enough: shape the footage, refine the details and deliver a usable result. Invideo Editor and ChatCut both combine AI agents with timelines you can edit manually for free. The choice comes down to which controls, assistant connections and export options remain available without an editing subscription.

Below, we compare how much of your edit you can build, refine and deliver for free in each tool, and where paid features become necessary, to help you decide which is the better free AI video editor for your work.

Invideo Editor vs ChatCut: What you get for free

Both invideo Editor and ChatCut offer free timeline editing. Here’s how far each lets you develop and deliver a video without an editing subscription, including agent connections, graphics controls and the features that still cost extra.

Feature

invideo Editor

ChatCut

Editing footage and revisions

Free access to invideo’s professional editing suite for footage, graphics and sound, plus editing through ChatGPT or Claude web conversations

Free access covers timeline and transcript editing, along with connections to supported desktop agents, but its plugin is unavailable in ChatGPT or Claude web conversations.

Graphics and animation

Unrestricted access to tools for creating custom graphics, with full control over every layer’s styling, placement, timing, keyframes and easing.

You get access to reusable graphics, with direct element editing limited to Desktop. In the browser, element and animation changes require an agent request.

Finished videos and editable projects

Watermark-free video exports and editable-project handoffs are included for free, with media, native-project exports and multicam support.

Compatible browser and Desktop local video exports are included for free, but cloud rendering is limited to 60 cumulative minutes. XML handoffs can omit titles, captions, effects and transitions.

Access to advanced features

The full professional editing suite and ordinary MCP editing remain available for free. Built-in-agent work and media generation use credits.

Manual editing is available for free, but video generation, custom cloned-voice narration and transparent graphics require Pro. Built-in-agent work and hosted generation also consume credits.

Your external assistant’s own subscription and usage limits apply.

What’s behind the paywall?

Both editors offer free editing, but their paid plans unlock different AI tools and delivery options. Here’s how their paid features, access limits and starting prices compare.

Built-in AI assistance

In ChatCut, built-in-agent requests use credits for work such as assembling footage, applying revisions and creating graphics. Charges vary with the model and context processed, so further requests can add to the cost.

In invideo Editor, a paid plan gives you access to a built-in editing agent for footage search, take selection, multicam syncing, assembly and reference-guided edits. It can also add B-roll, create graphics and animation, grade footage, build soundtracks, produce cutdowns, reframe shots, add captions, dub videos and apply review feedback.

Media generation and model access

In ChatCut, Pro is required for video generation and custom cloned-voice narration, with generation also consuming credits. Video options include Seedance, Gemini Omni and MiniMax, alongside image, music, voice and sound-effect tools. Having credits does not automatically unlock every paid feature.

In invideo Editor, a paid plan gives you access to a catalogue of 200+ video, image and audio models directly inside your editing suite. You can generate a missing cutaway, create supporting images or develop a soundtrack, then refine the material on the same timeline.

Delivery features

In ChatCut, Pro unlocks transparent ProRes 4444 graphics export and removes the cumulative 60-minute cloud-rendering allowance. Compatible browser and Desktop local video exports remain free, but projects that require cloud rendering are subject to that allowance unless you subscribe.

In invideo Editor, no export options are locked behind a paywall. Watermark-free video and editable-project exports are free, including media, native-project exports and multicam handoffs.

How much does it cost to upgrade?

In ChatCut, the starting subscription costs $45/month and includes 200 monthly credits and Pro benefits.

In invideo Editor, Basic starts at $9 per seat/month, including 190 monthly credits, Lite agent access and selected generation models. Higher plans add Pro and Ultra agents and wider model access.

Prices use monthly billing in US dollars, checked on 19 October 2026. Credit balances are not directly comparable because each platform prices AI work differently.

Which editor is worth it for you?

Go with invideo Editor if you want the greater scope to create and finish an edit for free: a professional editing suite, custom graphics with full layer control, ChatGPT or Claude web access, and free video or editable-project delivery. Its paid agent and generation options can extend that workflow when you need them, without making a subscription a requirement for ordinary editing.

Go with ChatCut if transcript-led editing, selection references and supported desktop agents fit your process. Its free timeline and compatible local exports may cover the job. Pro becomes relevant when you need video generation, cloned-voice narration, transparent graphics or more cloud rendering; direct graphic-element editing still requires Desktop.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need ChatGPT or Claude to use invideo’s free editor?

No. The professional editing suite is available for manual work without either assistant. Connecting ChatGPT or Claude gives you another way to direct the edit; your assistant’s own plan and usage limits apply. The built-in invideo agent is optional and uses invideo credits.

Does buying ChatCut credits unlock its Pro features?

No. A credit balance and a paid entitlement are different. A one-time credit pack does not unlock every Pro feature or remove the cumulative cloud-rendering allowance. Check that the plan includes the generation or delivery feature you need before buying credits for it.

Do 190 invideo credits and 200 ChatCut credits buy similar amounts of editing?

The counts alone cannot tell you. Each platform charges differently for agent work and generation, and usage depends on the task, model and context. Compare the cost of a defined editing job rather than treating the two credit balances as equivalent.
