Do browser-based AI video tools have the same creative freedom as local ComfyUI setups?

Not identical — the freedom differs by axis. Local ComfyUI gives node-level pipeline control and no content filtering, but only for models you can run on your own GPU. Browser platforms trade node granularity for frontier model access (Veo, Kling, Seedance 2.0 are API-only), persistent project context, and zero setup — and content policy varies sharply by platform.

Judge the comparison on four axes: content policy, pipeline control, model access, and setup cost — because the two approaches win on different ones.

Content permissiveness. A local ComfyUI install applies no filter: whatever the open-weight model can generate, you can generate. Most browser platforms enforce stricter content policies, which is why filmmakers making non-PG, dramatic work historically defaulted to local setups. The gap is narrower than assumed, though — invideo runs frontier models like Seedance 2.0 through their APIs and permits serious filmmaker-grade content, which one working filmmaker called reason enough to pay for a subscription on its own. If mature dramatic content is your constraint, test the specific platform's policy rather than assuming all browser tools behave the same.

Pipeline control and repeatability. ComfyUI wins on granularity: you wire every node, pin every seed, and re-run an identical graph forever.
