How do you add motion graphics overlays to AI-generated video in DaVinci Resolve?

AI-generated clips composite exactly like camera footage in DaVinci Resolve — no special handling required. You add motion graphics two ways: build them natively in the Fusion tab (Merge nodes, animated widgets, tracked labels), or import pre-rendered graphics with an alpha channel onto a track above the clip. Fusion's Tracker keeps overlays locked to moving objects in the footage.

AI-generated video needs no special treatment in DaVinci Resolve: drop the clip on your timeline and it behaves like any other footage, so every standard compositing workflow applies. If you generate your clips with the invideo agent, they download as standard video files — the invideo agent is a production asset generator, and final overlay work and assembly happen in an editor like Resolve.

Step 1 — Decide between imported graphics and Fusion-built graphics. For pre-rendered motion graphics (lower thirds, logo animations, templates), export them with a transparency channel — ProRes 4444 or a PNG sequence with alpha — place them on a video track above the AI clip, and Resolve composites them automatically. Resolve 21 also accepts Lottie/OGraf JSON vector animations dropped directly onto the timeline as overlays. For custom graphics built to fit the shot, use the Fusion tab.

Step 2 — Build overlays in Fusion. Select the AI clip, open the Fusion tab, and stack your graphic elements over the MediaIn node with Merge nodes. Two techniques from a documented AI-animated production make flat elements feel designed rather than pasted on: for pop-in widgets (comment cards, UI elements), offset the height keyframes 1–2 frames from the width keyframes and press S on the selected spline keyframes to apply ease-in/ease-out — the multi-axis offset produces an organic bounce instead of a mechanical pop. Add a Quick Bevel node to flat card backgrounds and icons to give them depth. For any element that travels across frame (a cursor, a callout line), animate it along a curved B-spline path rather than straight keyframe-to-keyframe motion so the movement feels human.

Step 3 — Track overlays to the AI footage. AI-generated shots usually have camera movement, so use Fusion's Tracker to lock rectangle cards and text labels to objects in the frame — the overlay then rides the camera move instead of floating over it.

Step 4 — Finish with texture and glow passes on adjustment clips. An Edge Detect effect applied as an adjustment clip (edge blur and width up, brightness low) adds a subtle glow that keeps animations from looking flat. Two Scan Lines instances rotated 90° to each other at high frequency and low sharpness simulate a screen dot-matrix; keep them on their own adjustment clip so you can fade them independently of other effects. A dust overlay at 8% opacity plus Resolve's Film Grain adds cinematic texture over the composite.

The payoff is documented: replacing or augmenting select AI shots with custom Resolve animations is what separates a finished piece from raw generations — one creator built a full cinematic desktop animation this way in 5–10 minutes. For complex Fusion node trees over long AI clips, generate proxies so playback stays responsive while you keyframe.
