Start with the effects that fix the biggest cinematic giveaway — flat, mechanical motion and texture-less surfaces — then layer texture and light on top.

Edge Detect as a glow (adjustment clip). Apply the Edge Detect ResolveFX on an adjustment clip, increase edge blur and edge width, and keep brightness low. This creates a subtle glow that makes animations look dreamy rather than flat — one of the fastest single-node upgrades in Resolve.

Film Grain (ResolveFX). Apply grain at high strength and opacity with a small grain size. It adds cinematic texture that flat digital renders lack, and it's the same treatment used to give AI-generated animation a classic 90s-broadcast feel in documented retro-grade workflows.

Dust overlay at 8% opacity. A dust particle overlay set to roughly 8% opacity simulates organic film texture without becoming visible as an effect. Keep it low — the point is that viewers feel it, not see it.

Dual-axis Scan Lines. For anything screen-based, apply two instances of the Scan Lines effect rotated 90° to each other at high frequency and low sharpness — it produces a convincing dot-matrix computer-screen appearance. Keep scan lines on their own adjustment clip, separate from your other effects, so you can fade them out independently.

Film Damage (ResolveFX). Adds moving lines and specs that sell a vintage or analog-source aesthetic. Use it when the piece calls for age; skip it for clean modern motion graphics.

Quick Bevel (Fusion node). A subtle bevel plus gradient on flat UI widgets and icon elements gives them depth and a polished, dimensional look instead of a pasted-on one.

Motion polish: easing, offsets, and curved paths. Select your spline keyframes and press S to apply an ease-in/ease-out curve — this alone makes motion feel natural instead of mechanical. For pop-in widgets, offset the height animation 1–2 frames from the width animation to get a genuinely bouncy, organic entry rather than a rigid scale-up. For cursor or object travel, use a curved B-spline path instead of a straight keyframe path so movement feels human.

Tracker for locked overlays. When compositing graphics over moving footage, use Fusion's Tracker to follow the camera movement so cards, labels, and text stay locked to objects in the frame. This matters especially over AI-generated clips — one documented workflow generates base footage with the invideo agent, then composites tracked Fusion overlays and custom animations on top, because replacing select shots with custom Resolve animations is what creates the high-budget feeling and separates the result from raw AI output.

Recommended stacking order. Fix motion first (easing, offsets, paths), then depth (Quick Bevel), then light (Edge Detect glow), then texture on adjustment clips in this order: film grain → dust overlay → film damage → scan lines last on its own clip. Texture layers go above everything so they unify the composite; independent adjustment clips let you dial each back without rebuilding the comp.
