The Fusion page is DaVinci Resolve's built-in node-based compositing and motion-graphics environment. Instead of stacking layers, you connect nodes — merges, transforms, trackers, keyers, particle emitters — into a flow chart to build VFX, animated titles, tracked overlays, and 3D composites directly on your timeline clips, with no export to a separate application.
Open any clip on your timeline in the Fusion page and you're working in a node graph: each node performs one operation — a luma key, a transform, a merge, a tracker — and you wire them together to build the composite. This node-based approach replaces layer stacks, which makes complex effects easier to read and rewire than the same effect built as twenty stacked layers.
In practice, the work splits into three pillars. Motion graphics and titles: animated text, lower thirds, UI mockups, and broadcast-style graphics. One documented workflow turned a static desktop screenshot into a cinematic animation using vignettes, luma keying, a Quick Bevel node for depth on flat widgets, bouncy pop-in text, an animated mouse cursor moving along a curved B-spline path (a curved path reads as human; a straight keyframe path reads as robotic), dual-axis scan lines for a dot-matrix screen look, a dust overlay at 8% opacity, and a camera zoom — built in 5–10 minutes. VFX compositing: keying, cleanup, and tracking. Fusion's Tracker follows camera movement in footage so graphic overlays — cards, labels, red-string effects — stay locked to objects as the shot moves; one creator used exactly this to pin annotation cards onto AI-generated clips. Particles and 3D: Fusion includes a particle system and a full 3D workspace for effects that flat layer-based editors can't build.
A few keyframe techniques from documented Fusion workflows show the level of control you get: press S on selected spline keyframes to apply an ease-in/ease-out curve so motion feels natural, and offset a widget's height animation 1–2 frames from its width animation to get an organic bounce instead of a mechanical pop. Apply effects like scan lines on their own adjustment clip so you can fade them out independently of everything else.
The workflow advantage is integration: Fusion compositions live on the clip itself, so you jump between the Edit and Fusion pages without rendering or round-tripping, and you can save compositions as macros and reuse them as drag-and-drop templates from the Edit page. Fusion also ships in the free version of Resolve, so none of this requires the Studio license to start.
For AI filmmakers, Fusion is where generated footage gets finished. Clips generated through the invideo agent drop into Fusion like any camera footage, and replacing or augmenting select shots with custom Fusion animations is what separates a polished film from raw generations — as one creator put it, you still need editing skills "to keep that high budget feeling."
